The process

We start with the specs, not the product

Six steps, the same for every item on this page. Skip to how we assess if you want the short version.

  1. Pick the category and the specs that decide it

    For duvet covers that is fabric, weave, closure and washing. For weighted blankets it is fill type, compartment size, weight and washing.

  2. Pull the manufacturer's published specifications

    Where a figure is not published, it is recorded as not published. It is never estimated.

  3. Record the retailer rank and the number of ratings

    An average without a sample size behind it says very little, so the sample size is always shown alongside.

  4. Line the products up against each other

    The specs are aligned in one table so the differences are the only thing left to look at.

  5. Write it, cite the source, date it

    Every entry carries the date its data was last checked.

  6. Re-check quarterly

    If a product goes out of stock or its specifications change, the entry is revised or removed.

The outlier in this list, and the reason is worth understanding before you pay for it. It weighs less than everything else here and costs four times as much — you are buying the knit structure and the absence of glass beads, not more weight. If what you want is simply a heavier blanket, the two below do that for a fifth of the price.

How to choose

Four specs decide most of it

1 · Fabric, in this order

Microfibre is the cheapest and the least breathable. Washed cotton sits in the middle and gets softer with washing. Cotton-linen blends cost roughly twice as much and are noticeably cooler to sleep under. If you sleep hot, that gap is the one worth paying for.

2 · Corner ties, and how many

Four corner ties is the common shortfall and the reason a duvet cover ends up bunched at one end. Eight is what to look for. It is a small detail that decides how the item behaves every week for years.

3 · Compartment size on any bead-filled blanket

Glass beads move. Small compartments hold them in place; large ones let the weight slide to one end overnight. Five-inch squares or smaller is the number to look for, and it is usually buried in the description.

4 · Weight, against your own

The commonly published guide is about 10% of body weight. What that means in practice: a 20 lb blanket is aimed at adults around 190–210 lb. Overshooting does not make it work better, it makes it harder to sleep under.

The spread from $14.35 to $114.99 is roughly eight times, and it buys fabric and certification — not size. Within one brand at one size, moving up the fabric ladder is about a two to four times difference.

Almost everything sits between $32 and $55 and is built the same way: glass beads in stitched compartments. The $199 entry is not a heavier version of those. It is lighter, and the money goes on a knit structure with no synthetic fill.

How we assess

What we look at, and what we refuse to invent

Published specifications

A product that states its fabric blend, its GSM, its compartment size and its washing instructions is easier to compare than one that does not. We record what is published and mark the rest as not published. We do not fill gaps with plausible numbers.

Retailer rank and sample size

Where a product carries a category rank, that is a real signal and we show it. Where it carries ratings, we show how many — an average from a dozen people is not the same evidence as one from eleven thousand. We do not publish a star average we have not recorded ourselves.

Price against the category

Judged against comparable products, not against the cheapest thing on the internet. The price bands above are the yardstick.

Certification

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and similar marks are listed with their certificate numbers where the maker publishes them, so you can verify the claim independently.

What we will not do

We will not claim to have tested a product we have not tested. We will not state a specification the maker does not publish. We will not show a score we cannot derive from recorded data. Where that leaves a gap, the gap stays visible.

No. Every figure on this page comes from the manufacturer's published specifications, the retailer's own listing, or the certification body's published certificate number, and each entry says which. We would rather state that plainly than imply a test we did not run.

How are the picks chosen?

Products are included when the specifications that decide the category are published, when there is a verifiable retail listing, and when they add something the others in the list do not — a different fabric, a different construction, a different price point. There is no score, because we do not want to publish one we cannot derive from recorded data.

Why is only bedding covered?

The site launched with one category done properly. Household and Home are listed as coming soon. We would rather run one category honestly than three badly.

How current is this information?

Each entry carries the date its data was last checked — 23 September 2026 for everything on this page. Listings are re-checked quarterly, and out-of-stock products are removed rather than left standing as dead links.

Where do the ratings numbers come from?

From the retailer's product listing. We show how many ratings a product has where the retailer publishes the count. We record the source next to the figure so you can check it yourself.
